Pour la première fois au Musée du Quai Branly, une exposition occupe la totalité des 2000 m2 des espaces d’expositions tempo- raires et s’ouvre totalement sur le jardin du musée instaurant un dialogue fort entre le dehors et le dedans.
L’exposition présente des œuvres d’art et des documents qui montrent de manière chronologique les relations entre le jazz et les arts graphiques à travers tout le XXe. Les jeux de correspondances sont organisés à travers deux univers scénographiques : dix espaces chronothématiques greffés le long d’une timeline et une ligne diagonale chronologique qui « tranche » de part en part l’ensemble des espaces.
Les « poches » chronothématiques, connectées à la timeline, définissent une forme de labyrinthe éclaté et ouvrent la perspective pour que le regard s’échappe au loin. Enfin, l’ensemble des espaces baignent dans une lumière diffuse provenant des « stalactites » formés au plafond.
For the first time at the Quai Branly museum, an exhibition has filled the entire 2000 m2 of temporary exhibition space, opening up onto the museum garden to set up a powerful dialogue between outside and inside.
The exhibition features artworks and documents that show the relations over time between jazz and the graphic arts throughout the 20th century. The interplay of correspondences is organised through two visual worlds: ten time-theme areas placed along a timeline and a diagonal chronological line that completely “cuts off” each area.
The time-theme “pockets”, connected to the timeline, represent a kind of shattered labyrinth, opening up the perspective so that the viewpoint escapes into the distance. Finally, all the areas are bathed in a diffuse light originating from the “stalactites” formed on the ceiling.
